The solemnity of the last day of wake of murdered BAYAN Muna leader in Bohol was disrupted when a military asset gatecrashed in the early morning of June 26, 2007 in Brgy. Cabiguhan, Trinidad.
Relatives of Mario ‘Mayong’ Auxilio, assassinated secretary-general of BAYAN Muna-Bohol effected citizen’s arrest on Dominador Nambatac, 23, of Brgy. San Pacual, Ubay and turned him over to the local police.
Nambatac, who bragged of being ‘a rebel returnee,’ admitted to having been deployed to the wake by a certain M/Sgt. Barrios of the 15th IB with the daily supervision of PFC Danny Rubico of the 12th IB to monitor the movement of Rep. Satur Ocampo.
The nationalist Congressman of BAYAN Muna attended the memorial rites for Auxilio on the afternoon of June 25 in the victim’s hometown in Brgy. Cabiguhan, Trinidad.
Atty. Poch Cinco, chairperson of KARAPATAN, condemned the military’s attempt at sabotaging the wake. “The recent action of the 15th of sending an agent to infiltrate the crowd of mourners only confirms that this notorious military unit has a hand in the assassination of Mayong. These soldiers are not only taunting the grief of multitudes but are sending a warning to those who believe in Mayong’s cause that they could be next,” Cinco said.
In spite of the harassment, a throng of thousands accompanied the body of Auxilio to the public cemetery in Trinidad at about 2PM yesterday (26 June). The protest-procession passed by the local police office where the arrested army agent and saboteur was detained and faced charge of violating Article 132 (Disruption of Public Worship)of the Revise Penal Code.
Earlier in the afternoon, five elements of the 15th IB tried to rescue their agent at the police station but were thwarted with the presence of paralegal volunteers of KARAPATAN.
