On 30 November 2007, about 400 members of the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN) staged a rally to commemorate the birth of working class hero Andres Bonifacio. As they marched down from Fuente Osmeña to Gaisano Metro in downtown Colon through Osmeña Boulevard at about 9AM, some protesters took the time to paste posters along the route calling for the ouster of the illegitimate Gloria presidency.

At around 11:30 AM, as the protesters reached the vicinity of the Abellana National High School, SCMP-Cebu spokesperson Reglets Imbong was separated from the main group as he fixed some of the posters along the center island of the boulevard.

Unknown to him, a silver pick-up truck without plate number was tailing the group and stopped just across the road parallel to the victim. Three burly men, wearing shirts marked “CIIB” came out and went directly to the victim. They grabbed the victim from behind and pulled him towards the vehicle.

“Gigunitan ku sa bukton. Nagtuo ko nga mga kauban ra. Diay, mga CIIB na. Giguroy ko nila paingon sa ilang van. Hapit na ko na sulod sa van apan pwerte nakung paningkamot nga dili ku ma sulod kay nag huna huna ko nga naa silay dautang intension sa pagkuha naku, ” Reglets said.

As he struggled to be free, the commotion attracted attention of other protesters who went back to his rescue.

A tug-of-war ensued for the victim until the perpetrators were forced to give up on him amidst the crowd that had surrounded them. One of the perpetrators even had to unbutton his pistol holster to warn off the crowd from further getting closer.

The perpetrators then sped off leaving behind the victim with bruises on the torso and both hands.###<object width=”425″ height=”350″> <param name=”movie” value=””&gt; </param> <embed src=”; type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” width=”425″ height=”350″> </embed> </object>
