The premier human rights alliance KARAPATAN-Central Visayas today dismissed as childish the statements of Negros Oriental 3rd District Representative Pryde Henry Teves, who accused the group as one of the “progressive partylist that should be investigated by the Commission on Elections” for not condemning “the alleged violations of the so-called CPP-NPA-NDF.”
“First of all, let me straighten out the facts for him. KARAPATAN-Central Visayas is not a party list group. We don’t know who is feeding him inaccurate information, but he sure should double-check his sources first if he has no guts to confront us directly,” said Paz Silva, advocacy officer of KARAPATAN-CV.
“Secondly, he should stop parroting vigilante chieftain Pastor Alcover, who has been raising the same threats against progressive partylist groups since time immemorial. Yet, these same baseless allegations have been junked time and again in the dustbin of history,“ Silva said.
“Teves has reached a low point in his carreer in stooping down with a rejoinder to Alcover’s bigoted harangue. He is in the brink of losing relevance and credibility with the learned by associating himself with cold war relics like Alcover. In fact, after more than a decade of gunning for a Congressional seat with the help of the AFP, Alcover only belatedly acquired one this year after a mathematical reformulation of partylist seats allocation,” she added.
KARAPATAN-CV also condemned the 79th IB for political partisanship when they actively campaigned, supported and facilitated the recent grand rally of Alcover’s partylist of vigilantes in Sta. Catalina.
“Instead of maligning us and worshipping Alcover, Teves should do something productive like extend support to our current relief operations for the victims of Typhoon Ondoy,” Silva concluded.###
