RIGHTS GROUP TWITS AFP: ‘Who is the Liar Now?’
The premier human rights alliance KARAPATAN-Central Visayas feels vindicated after the Prosecutors’ Office in Dumaguete City threw out what the group claimed was a trumped up charge of rebellion against three youth activists.

The group has always asserted that Ma. Carla Alvarico and Karlo Maliel Cabahug, both hails from Cebu, and Glenn Absin of Guihulngan City were innocent of the malicious allegations against them.
The victims were on board two motorcycles when they were arrested without warrant by soldiers led by 1Lt. Ramon Salvador in a military checkpoint on 18 October, 2009, 7PM in Zamboangita, Negros Oriental. They were accused of being NPAs, and detained for more than two weeks. Cabahug and Absin were mauled. The three youths were interrogated.
However, in a resolution issued on October 30, 2009, Prosecutor Elizabeth Bayhon dismissed the complaint for lack of probable cause.
“From the very start, we are very confident that this trumped up complaint will be dismissed because it stemmed from pure lies. We call on AFP officials, especially Col. Yano and Lt. Col. Neri, to accept the truth that never can evil triumph over good, nor fascism over justice,” said Jean Suarez, Public Information Officer, KARAPATAN-Central Visayas.
“We also condemn the abuses of the 79th IB soldiers and the malicious charging of spurious complaints against human rights defenders,” he added.
“We likewise call on CHR investigator Jess Canete to reinvestigate the illegal arrest of the three youths and, for a change, stop parroting worn-out AFP lies,” he concluded.
